The Brief
Health Journal was a free print and digital publication covering health news, local wellness experts, and medical resources across Virginia’s Peninsula and Southside. As lead graphic designer, I was brought on to rebrand the magazine and its social presence.
Problem
The magazine’s look wasn’t keeping pace with its content. To attract new advertisers and grow its readership, Health Journal needed a cleaner, more contemporary design that felt professional and engaging in print and online.
Design Intent
I wanted Health Journal to feel energetic and approachable, making health topics fun to pick up rather than clinical. I brought in bright, bold color, expressive mixed typography, and playful line illustrations. Dynamic layouts broke dense content into visual, easy-to-follow pieces, and I carried the new look across Instagram and Pinterest so the brand felt cohesive everywhere readers found it.
Outcome
The rebrand brought in more readers and advertisers, along with growth in monthly Pinterest viewers and stronger engagement on Instagram.
